Tivoli Brewing Company’s Helles Lager slaked thirsty miners in Denver beginning in 1859. Slightly sweet, not too bitter, and smooth, production ceased in 1969 due to flooding of the South Platte River and labor issues. With a commitment to recreating Colorado craft beers, CEO Corey Marshall revived Tivoli Helles Lager in 2012. The original recipe that incorporates 100 % German malt and hops, along with an ancient strain of yeast from Andecks Monastery near Munich, is brewed in authentic Bavarian copper kettles.
For a taste of yesteryear, Roy’s Last Shot, 17286 Hwy. 119, Black Hawk, CO, offers Tivoli Helles Lager on tap. More information about Helles Lager and other Tivoli beers may be viewed at http://TivoliBrewingCo.com.
