September 21st and 22nd are Miners’ Days in Nederland, CO. Celebrating its past and present, professionals as well as amateurs compete for prize money in events like Spike Driving, Bow Sawing, Single Jack Drilling (where steel is driven into granite by hand), and Hand Mucking. Sweat pours from the brows of the miners in the jack leg events pitting man and machinery against rock.
